Personally I recommend getting an audio interfaces with at least 2 inputs and 2 outputs.

There are many types of audio interfaces in the market from small ones. Plug your 1/4 inch or xlr jack into the audio interface and the audio interface converts that analog signal into digital signal which are then sent to your computer. You can’t plug that 1/4 inch jack of your guitar or plug in that XLR jack from your microphone to your computer right? An audio interface do just that.
